Friday 9th July - walk ***** - Two rivers, Orwell to the Deben including breakfast at Landguard – sunny periods.

Wanted to get out on the bikes before the forecast showers arrived so took a pastry and flask to sit by the River Deben at Landguard. We did not leave too early around 8.15 heading down to Langer Park and onto the view point where a few yachts are lining up on the far side of the river to race including one with a very large mast! We sit on the old pier and it is very peaceful with very few people about watching the action, the racing yachts pass making slow progress in the light winds followed by two ferries heading out as a fishing boat comes in. It is a funny morning being a bit hazy, you could hardly see the Essex coast but nice and mild as we tuck into our warm pecan pastries with a cuppa before setting off back across Landguard Nature reserve bumping into an old neighbour and stop for a chat, she agrees to call in at our house on her way home to drop off a couple of homegrown cucumbers:) Back along the prom getting fairly busy now, Mag then turns off for Lidl while I continue to The Fludgers taking the road around to the beach huts on the cliff top and down the windy path to the prom stopping off at The Dip to watch someone having fun on a Fliteboard, that a motorised electric foil surfboard if you didn’t know and was having fun whizzing up and down. I think he was fairly new to the sport as he was taking some good wipeouts, he looked cool in his Darth Vader helmet too, definitely much harder than it looks but at over £10,000 for one I think I will pass on that sport and stick to windsurf foiling! Onto to Felixstowe Ferry where the ferry was just leaving the jetty while the harbour master was waiting to take people on river trips. I walked through the boat yard and chatted to our next-door neighbour setting off in his little tenter to work on his wooden yacht. Out onto the River Deben path turning off at Kings Fleet and taking Marsh Lane back to Felixstowe, through The Grove and home. Another nice ride being out for 3 hrs. 15 mins. covering over 13 miles! Home in time to send some pics to ITV and BBC weather, make a roll then do my exercises, sorting out a new fuselage for my foil so hope to get back on that soon, fingers crossed for no more breakages and the good news is the showers did not arrive!
